(The other day I drew a picture of IO. I know what he looks like now. I'm working on getting a file to send everyone! Stay tuned, and I'll keep you posted!)
Signas strolled outside on the roof of the Maverick Hunter Building. He was reflecting on the past, and the current situation with Doppler. The 17th unit was getting antsy, so he finally sent them out to bring X home. In thinking about Mega Man X, he remembered X tell him of the last time Doppler attacked. It was here, on the roof of this very building where the first battle was fought. A giant, ugly Reploid with spike-balls attatched to chains. Even so, it seemed like that was a long time ago. As he paced the roof, thinking, he caught sight of something in the sky. A blue light, falling from the clouds. It was so large, and so close....but wait! It kept coming closer, and closer. Signas almost started to worry, when right before his very eyes...it vanished. --Only to reappear behind him as IO.
Only slightly taller than Zero, IO was a magnificent looking warrior. His body was all black, and lined with stripes of yellow-gold on his armor. His blue visor reflected the lights of the surrounding city. His boots were black, with four yellow stripes, in a descending X pattern. The red sensor glowed on his chest. He stood there with his arms folded, and a scowl on his face.
"Are you the one called Signas?" ,he asked.
Signas turned slowly, not wanting to startle his visitor with a sudden movement. "I am. Who are you?"
"IO is what I am called. You will tell me something, then?"
"Is that why you have come here? To ask me something? What is it then?", Signas replied in a calm tone.
"You must tell me where Mega Man X is."
"Why should I do that?", Signas inquired.
"That is not your concern. It is between myself, and Mega Man X. You must tell me!"
"If I choose not to?"
"I don't want to hurt you.", IO said slowly. He began to reach over his shoulder to pull out his blade.
"Reploids that choose violence over reason are doomed to fall. You will become a Maverick...if you are not already."
"Do not judge me so quickly.", IO said coldly. He was growing angry, but he didn't allow himself to flare up. Signas must be testing his character. He pulled his hand away from his blade. "What is it that you want Signas?"
"Want? Maybe you misunderstand?"
"No. I know your kind. You want something from me in return.", IO said, almost accusing him.
"If it has to be this way....than all I WANT is to know that I can trust you with this information. I do not know you, so you must give me some indication that I can trust you."
"Trust comes with time. It cannot be given so quickly, unless you are that foolish."
Signas put his hand to his chin. "Hmph! So are you saying that I can't trust you?"
"Trust me. Do not trust me. I do not care. All I want to know of is where I can find X. Much is at stake here, and there is no time for you to know about it."
"Are you on some kind of mission?"
"You could say that."
"What do you need with X?"
"Signas, I'll put it this way. If I were going to kidnap him, would I really show up here, and ask you to tell me where he is?"
Signas hadn't thought of that. "Good point. I'll tell you where he is. But, you have to tell me one thing about yourself."
"What?!!", IO was slightly alarmed.
"Who was your creator?", Signas asked him. IO didn't want to say anything about that. He was silent for a long time, not saying anything, not even moving. Finally he asked, "Why?"
"Because, if you tell me who you are I might be able to help you on your quest."
"Can I have the coordinants?", IO asked. From a container on his side, he produced a palm-held navigation device. Signas took it, and typed in the location that Zero had given him.
IO tucked it away, and began to power up his thrust system.
"If you want to know anything, the name is Zeng. Find him, and you'll have your answer." It was vague enough, but Signas knew what to look for. IO must have felt he could trust Signas. That made Signas smile. IO blasted away again, headed straight for New Doppler Town. They both had a key now. Signas had a key to IO's past, and IO had taken one step further into securing his future.
