Subject Author Date The golden mare stands in shocked silence, a cold numbness slowly spreading over her. Her mind seemed to work in slow motion, barely registering. Dead? No....not her sister...she'd been so alive... She blinks, not understanding, not wanting to. If she let herself, she'd have to accept it. She didn't want to. Just once, just once, she'd like to be able to put it aside. She'd lost her father as a foal, her mother, everything. For once, she wanted to lose herself and stop being mature, accepting it. Somehow reason doesn't penetrate her mind, the numbness leaves her legs and without thinking she is running. She just wants to get away, she doesn't wish to see the looks of sympathy on their faces, or hear their comforting words. She doesn't want to mourn, she just wants to run...and she does. Whisper in the Wind 15:16:43 02/24/02 Sun *Dawn drops her head at the news, eyes saddened by the news of her friend's death. She glances up, watching Wit galloping away, sadness doubling in her heart for the grief Wit must be going through* (NT) -- Dawn, 14:24:14 02/28/02 Thu She lowers her head as she runs, lengthening out, but she's out of shape and is soon gasping for breath. She reaches the small river at it's widest and rockiest point, not hesitating before leaping over it. Normally it would have been simple, but she had only been able to run for a few weeks, not even begun to limber up. Coming up short, she falls into the river, struggling to keep her head up before scrambling to pull herself up onto a rock, leaping on the wet rocks to get to the other side, often dangerously close to slipping but not even realizing. Finally she leaps onto the ledge where she had found solitude so often in her youth, collapsing, gasping, sopping wet, onto it. She wanted to keep running, to start before her greif could catch up again, but she couldn't, her whole body was burning as if on fire. So the tears came, racking her frail form, mixing with the pool of water around her.
