I was watching one of those behind the scenes specials about the old TV show Welcome Back Kotter. In their last season John Travolta only appeared in a few episodes because he was launching a successful film career.
I had forgotten that. My point is, even though he had become just a guest star on his own show, I think when most people think of that show they think of John Travolta. The rest of the cast never really achieved the same level of noteriety. Now I don't mean to compare Gillian to the Sweathogs, but I think years from now when people think about The X-Files David/Mulder will still be very much remembered as a key part. I think they just want to build up Robert Patrick right now.
He may need all the help hew can because (no offense) he's just not as charismatic as David.
