There was a story on our local news tonight about swimmer Ian Thorpe. They showed him in a tank full of sharks and other fish at the Sydney Aquarium (I was there too! Just not in the tank ;-) ). They said he was making a commercial and he went in right after the sharks' feeding time. They ignored him but IMO it was still a crazy thing to do!

Right after that there was another story about the world's oldest tortoise having a birthday in Australia. I think she's 170! They said she was originally aquired by Charles Darwin.

I don't know if we can say for sure if your problem shark is there because of overfeeding or not. I know they warn people in parks not to feed the bears because it just brings them closer.

But I don't think there are sharks who only like to dine on humans. Would that mean the shark was a Humanitarian? ;-) I thought they preferred seals. And they will sometimes go after humans wearing scuba gear because they resemble seals. I just don't believe sharks are that discerning and they don't think much if at all. Only in the Jaws movies did we have sharks bent on revenge and deliberate human consumption but it was just a movie.

FWIW if the shark is a menace then he certainly needs to be taken care of. I can still feel sad about having to destroy it but I'm not one to value a shark's life over humans who are threatened. And even if they caught it and released it out in deeper waters, at this point, because of it's new behavior it might very well come back. So yes in this case they have to do something. Stardoe I'm not THAT nutty!
