I think one of the points of this episode was to remind people that what you see isn't always what you get. I had no clue at the beginning that the "good preacher" was really the "bad guy." (Reminded me of an earlier episode where there was a 'thing' sewn into three men that would come out of their mouths and kill someone.) As a kid in Sunday School we were always taught to beware of false preachers--I don't know if that was an intentional reminder or not but it certainly worked. This episode sort of reminded me of the TV show Millenium which I enjoyed in spite of the uneasy feelings it left me with. This episode may have been intended to be a reminder that there is evil out there in the world--exaggerated but effective way to leave you thinking. The snakes were so-so. What bothers me is when she gave birth to them (physically impossible in real life) and the preacher feeding one at the end. GROSS to the MAX!!
