and here is mine for now:

I think Scully is here to show that science and religion can work together--the 'faith without seeing' philosophy working with the 'scientific proof necessary' philosophy. As to Mulder, I too think she is his guardian angel, but he also is hers. They each just seem to be there for the other when it is needed--in a variety of ways. She is strong when he is weak and he is holding her up when she is down. I guess they just balance each other out. They both have linear thinking patterns. Sometimes it seems they are on parallel paths when solving a crime or dealing with an ethical problem. They each have their own ways of processing information which is so fun to watch. How each one react to the same problem is rarely the same and shows how they compliment each other to solve a case or a problem. I think each one validates the other in all parts of the show.

Scully was saved by Mulder in the "nick of time" and wasn't really in a vulnerable situation to get bit after that (at least that I can remember). Mulder just kept going back to the "snake pit." (YUK!!!)

Her father, inspite of his use of snakes, wasn't as evil as the so-called "good on the outside" preacher who was the reason Gracie was pregnant with snakes in the first place (Thank goodness this can't happen like this in reality. This whole ep. absolutely makes me cringe.) Gracie knew this when she gave birth to the snakes. Her father brought her back from the "depths of evil" to something which, while out of the mainstream, at least wasn't tied into the devil. (As represented by the snakes which are a biblical tie to the 'fallen angel' (and his followers) who is referred to as the devil.)

I don't know--sounds plausible. I don't mind snakes if they are where they belong--I just don't want them in the house or car with me.
