I am unsure if you (and Det and cvl) are talking about DD himself or about DD in character, when you talk about humour. I think DD is extremely funny, and witty. His sense of humour has been described as 'very British' so maybe that's why I get it so much. He is very subtle and straight faced. He doesn't do jokes, there is just a natural unfolding of his humour. It's almost incidental.

As for his humour in his roles - well, I loved The Larry Sanders show (and Garry in it) and DD was great - playing a version of himself, actually. But DD was in Beethoven, wasn't he, and I don't recall laughing out loud at that. I suppose it might be the case that we haven't really seen a true comic turn, outside of Mulder. Maybe he'll surprise us. I have my doubts, as it has become clear that a lot of Mulder's one-liners are in fact input from DD.
