I see the same sense of humor in both Mulder and in other things DD has done (other than Beethoven where he played a jerk.) DD's sense of humor comes out in Mulder and yes, I think it is very much more British than American which is why I like to listen to him. American humor tends to be quite shallow--in your face--and quite frankly, not that funny. I prefer to watch British comedy as it far outranks anything here. Jokes can be funny at times, but usually have to 'put somebody down' before they can get a laugh. Humor on the other hand takes intelligence and a fairly good vocabulary to pull it off. Like you said, humor just happens and that the spontaneous reaction or reply is what is so funny.
