That's what I thought also. However when I listened to the crude language style of that character, his use of poppet made me think he was mispronouncing the word "puppet." I think "poppet" could have been his poor pronumciation of puppet. He called pop corn "poppin corn" and had other poor pronumciations of typical English words throughout the episode. Actually, his dialect I think was supposed to reflect the one found in extremely rural Appalachian mountain regions which have been isolated from the mainstream for many years. When we were out east, we were told to avoid exploring the country on unmarked roads (according to information from "locals") because it could be dangerous. Didn't ask why--just did it.
