Sorry about the delay getting here. The net was very busy when I tried to post yesterday so I gave up!

Season 8 at last and ...oh noooooo. Poor Mulder. It’s almost too much to bear. Being subjected to horrible tests and great pain being inflicted on him. Is this true or is it Scully’s fearful imaginings? I’m worried.

So – John Doggett: what a brilliant entrance he made. So subtle. The opening scene with him and Scully meeting was equally as good as the first meeting between Mulder and Scully in The Pilot. It was a really great piece of dialogue and seemed to touch on lots of things (her relationship to Mulder, her new found loyalty to the ‘spooky’ cause and Doggett’s very clever investigative technique). I can really see the two of them getting over this initial fracas and becoming close partners. Robert Patrick is a great presence and what I loved was how independent Doggett was, refusing to be a puppet for Kersh.

I was wondering how Skinner might fare in this Season. I suspect he will soon be back behind his desk if Kersh has any say and if Doggett is so high profile. But it was nice to see Skinner out and about, being an agent and a bit of a believer at that!

The strongest part of this episode for me was Scully’s inner struggle, to keep going. She must be asking herself so many questions about her pregnancy and she is trying not to go to pieces at Mulder’s 'loss'. The music – her music – was beautiful and I particularly loved the opening shot of her in her apartment, looking into the mirror. It was like you could imagine her turmoil and sadness and stoicism. Fantastic acting, even in stillness. She did it again later in the ep when she was shown just staring at the gravestone with her hand to her face.

I can’t wait for Part Two, but knowing how little Mulder is in this series, I doubt he will be back where he belongs even at the end of this two parter. (That's my fear and prediction). But I'm just so happy to be back on track, even if 'on track' means a year and a half later! Hope you can all remember the season opener of 8 and to remind you where Part One ended: Doggett has a gun aimed at Mulder, who has taken Gibson and they are standing on top of a cliff.....
