after watching a tape of, I think Amor fati (? the one where he has brain surgery) last night, I have finally concluded that this was where they both stated their feelings for each other--no "I love you's" but rather the *feelings and emotions* that are the basis for a long-lasting relationship, complete with the love component (IMHO anyhow.) Somehow I think that after the kiss in Millenium and his comment "see the world didn't end", they began to see their relationship in a different light. Probably not in bed, yet, but nevertheless, much more intimate now that they know how each other feels. I think that that statement had a double meaning--both for the projected end of the world (although she is right, the new millenium starts with this next New Year) and his way of telling her that a relationship isn't the end of things. I have gotten the feeling that she has been afraid that a relationship would interfere with her passion for the career she has chosen. Perhaps she is one of those women who just couldn't stay at home and bake cookies and do laundry. (I applaud anybody who can do that--I know it would drive me bonkers!)

I agree that he wants her safe--I think that somehow he knows or has a feeling that something is going to happen and his first thoughts are for her. He may sense that there is something physically different--Scully doesn't ever seem to get sick. Again, I think he knows she is pregnant (maybe subconsciously) and his first thoughts are to protect her and keep her safe. They may have removed some of his genetic material earlier (but all they did was use an instrument that sounded like that thing the dentist uses to keep your mouth dry) but I seriously doubt that they cut out any part of his brain. Therefore his ability to sense things (as he always was able to do) is still intact. He may not hear voices but he still may be able to read minds?

As for Billy and the deputy, I think she was thinking of possible medical ramifications--children and if they were normal, how many of the abductees were back and living a "normal" life, etc. Somehow I think she views the world as one big medical study regarding abductees. WAIT a minute--maybe she was wondering if more of these abductees have had children???

OK--back to the thinking mode and maybe a few more S7 tapes!
