Subject: Millennium - Fancy a snog?

This was one of the best horror/scary X Files I’ve seen. I loved the interaction between Mulder and Frank Black. It was the perfect combination, really. Two profilers together and the younger one deferential to the older man’s expertise. I think both Mulder and Scully got a lot out of meeting Frank. The episode retained a lot of the atmosphere of the ‘Millennium’ series, with the addition of the music from that show. As far as XF is concerned, there was a lot of Season 1 in this one. Plenty of dark shadows and gruesome living dead lurking in the shadows. I liked it a lot.

I *didn’t* really like the kiss, I’m sorry to say. Not only had there been little build up to the New Year celebrations (I didn’t get a feeling of a race against time to beat 12.00) but I also didn’t get a feeling from M & S that they felt particularly close that day or that they felt affected by the global event. So I felt that the kiss was a reaction, somewhat in embarrassment, as they watched others in Times Square embrace. It was a very unsexual kiss. I can’t imagine anyone watching it would think it a perfect reflection of Mulder and Scully’s relationship. Afterwards, I thought Scully looked a bit sad. Was she thinking: “Oh, so *that’s* what kissing Mulder on the lips is like. Not life changing then.” They didn’t seem very excited about the New Year. I thought they looked sombre, if anything and even the ‘Happy New Year’ they wished each other was awkward. Sorry if shippers think it more significant. To tell the truth, I would have preferred a big juicy hug. They are good at those and they really mean them.
