Great points in all these posts. I personally don't think they really did anything in the early seasons--they noticed each other but in S1 mulder just didn't seem to get the hang of how to hug her. He always had this confused look on his face and his hug was way too platonic to be anything other than a response to her initiating the *hug.* The way they kept meeting each other and the way they developed a very close working relationship seemed to be the focus of the next few seasons. In Triangle, when he knew he loved her and told her so, Scully's response of "Oh Brother" and rolling her eyes told me that it was only a one way relationship at that point. I think she didn't realize that she loved him until he was hospitalized in the mental ward and there was nothing medical she could do to help him. When DF showed up, I think Scully pulled back after she saw them holding hands. It wasn't until DF was murdered that I think Scully was ready to walk up and *stake her claim.* I agree that maybe after Millenium, the intimacy thermometer climbed to *hot off camera* and that baby happened somewhere after that.
