Subject: "Harsh Realm", CC and the MSR

This was brought up on my fanfic list earlier this week and I thought the connection was interesting. Earlier this year, we talked at these forums about how the first five eps of Season 7 were *VERY* shippy, but then we went through a long "shipper drought", 'til things started heating back up during "all things" in late March.
Several people on the fanfic list attributed this sudden "slamming on the breaks" of the increasing intimacy of the MSR to the cancellation of "Harsh Realm". The theory is that, early on, CC was so busy with his "new baby" ("Harsh Realm") that he paid scant attention to his "older child" ("The X-Files") and various writers, directors and, most of all GA and DD themselves, were allowed to pretty much depict the MSR as they saw fit. When "HR" was cancelled CC began paying much more attention to "XF" and refused to allow the natural, increasing intimacy of the MSR to be depicted on the screen.
Apparently his eventual acceptance of a different kind of relationship between Mulder and Scully was done as a desperate attempt to keep DD involved with the show, as DD has been a shipper for several years now and is a big proponent of depicting "other angles" of Mulder's personality.
What does everybody think?
