Subject: Keeping him guessing....
In reply to: Rab-id, aka firstrabid on Yahoo IM and XFOS board 's message, "There is a lot of symbolism in 'all things'...." on 21:01:10 09/12/00 Tue

This kind of goes back to a point we debated quite a bit on the old boards back when Fowl Thing was still prowling around (Season 6 and all last summer). Several people then said that if Scully wanted to keep Mulder she was going to have to become more open to his ideas, more responsive to his suggestions. . .i.e. more like Fowley.
I pointed out then, and most people seemed to agree with me, that Mulder has already had two relationships in his life with women who thought the same way he did and shared his enthusiasm for all things paranormal. (Phoebe Green when he was at Oxford and Fowl Thing during his early years at the F.B.I.) Neither of these relationships lasted anywhere near as long as his relationship with Scully has and both seemed to have ended rather badly.
So, I do think Scully's ability to "keep him guessing" is a *MAJOR* component in Mulder's attraction to her. As he said in the movie, she's "made him a whole person". You only get that sort of completion from someone who has qualities you don't have, not from someone who's virtually your double.
