Hey detoured and badly dressed man! Pardon my intrusion.

I was reading your thoughts about CSM making a return appearance and wanted to tell you what I think. When I first saw Requiem I thought there was no way CSM could be dead. Krycek didn't check and make sure he was dead, for one thing, plus, he's the Smoking Man! How could he possibly be dead! But I've watched it a few more times now and I think that he's definitely dead. Why? Let me tell.

I love CSM as a villain, I even had sympathy for the man. But I think his role in TXF is over. He had his last hurrah in En Ami. The mythology has turned a corner, a corner where Krycek and Marita (but mostly Krycek) are in control. Look at CSM, he was pathetic in this episode, yet he was still clinging to what he used to have. I think Krycek throwing him down the steps actually let him die...well, I won't say with dignity, but how horrible would it be for us to see CSM lying on his death bed? This death is much more suitable to his character. It is actually a very classic storyline, the younger man killing off the older father figure and taking his place. It's been used countless times in movies and literature.

As far as Krycek and Marita just stepping over Smoking Man without checking to see if he's dead, I think that was done just to keep *us* guessing. If we don't believe he's actually dead we'll always be looking for him to turn up, which I don't believe he will.

So there's my theory: Smoking Man is really dead. If I'm wrong I'll eat a bug.

SMH
