Naw, she isn't ashamed of Mulder. She admires and respects him. She's just conflicted. On one hand, she's ambitious, intelligent, desperately seeking justice. On the other hand, she's using her remarkable talents to investigate paranormal cases and other agents call her Mrs. Spooky.

Maybe her entire family doesn't know what she does at the FBI. "Don't tell your grandmother - it would kill her." How many times have we all heard *that* line?
