I felt that in the diary scene, Scully could easily be read. I felt that she was very moved but was staying strong for Mulder. One teardrop from her and it would all be over. Like at the very end of the scene where Scully says, "Let's get out of here", she was at breaking point. As it was they were both teary eyed.(which in turn made me teary eyed!)
Outstanding chemistry between DD and GA in this scene and the whole ep. Definitely some of their best work to date.
