How do we *know* it belonged to Samantha? How do we *know* Samantha lived there? I've only watched the episode once, so maybe I missed something, but the only "proof" Mulder had was that Harold said it was Samantha's. And remember when Mulder, Scully and Harold went to the base and had their seance? We got a glimpse of someone watching them. Who was that, and what was s/he doing?

A LOT of people smoke, and back in the late 70's we didn't have the smoking laws we have now. As an ex-smoker, I know that any smoker can give a look that would send chills down your spine if asked to put out their cigarette. I don't know hairytoes' reason for not liking this scene, but I know I rolled my eyes a bit. Obviously, the man she was speaking to was evil, and that could only be (drum roll please) CSM.

Mulder has accepted lies as truth in the past where Samantha was concerned. I think where Samantha is concerned there is room for doubt about Mulder's normally excellent deductive abilities. I even agree that Mulder probably believes it. It just didn't convince me.

No special reason for him to be there except that he was so involved last week. Then for him to suddenly not be there, with no explanation, struck me as odd.

Ah, the joys of debating detoured! Nothin' like it.
