I just got an e-mail from my sister with her opinion of this episode. Thought you might like it. Here it is:

********************

I thought there were too many loose ends in last night's episode. For example, what kind of experiments were they doing on Samantha? How exactly did she disappear? Did Mulder's parent's know? What the hell was his mother trying to tell him? Are we forever doomed to have her around? Did she kill herself or not? (And wasn't that a particularly difficult way to kill herself, aren't there easier ones like lots and lots of pills? I didn't think anyone killed themself using a gas oven anymore.) How did the pedophile abduct those other kids -- the ones who actually had skeletons? (That was a particularly gruesome scene, where they're putting those little body bags onto the stretchers. There are some visuals I could do without.)
And if they were doing experiments on Samantha, why was she living with smoking man's son (and presumably smoking man)? I forget, is his son still alive and causing havoc? Why doesn't he remember any of this stuff?

Plus, I find the idea that children would just go up in smoke a very bizarre one. We're supposed to be comforted that one mother is in prison and the schizophrenic guy is suspected of murder because there are no bodies? Oh sure, I'm glad the kids missed out on being tortured, but still. I'm glad Mulder feels better, but wouldn't he appear to be even more odd to Scully and other people when he says "I have closure now. Samantha is dead but there is no body because old souls came to get her." Yeah, right. And I
guess perhaps they were assuming that souls are still hanging around here on earth instead of reincarnation or going someplace else. I think all this was harder to buy than if she'd actually been abducted by aliens. Aliens
seem more plausible.
