Hi Detoured, I don't know if I have a solid theory or not but I think that the two Doggetts were different in that one was just pig-headed and refused to accept things like parallel universes, etc. I thought that the one in the hospital was from the other universe and knew he was not in his own universe. He probably knew he couldn't get back home due to the paralysis and maybe didn't want to live anymore.

Since the "our" Doggett was still in Reyes's apartment, he had no clue what had happened because he was still stuck on the plate thing (or whatever it was.) Reyes' double was dead so she probably could go either place if she could find the portal or whatever it was called.

I think Mulder would have been fine with an artificial limb but I question how he would have acted had he been in Doggett's place. I really don't know if he would have wanted to live--he was willing to risk going with the aliens to be healed as he had been told they could do by Cassandra Spender. After his experience with them, I doubt he would be willing to do that again!
