What I don't understand is (spoilers-sort of if you haven't seen 8 or 9)

why doesn't Doggett just give up and believe that strange, unexplainable things happen. He has been eaten alive and puked out, seen a mashed up Billy Miles keep coming back again and again, and had his run-in with Lucy Lawless.

Anybody have any ideas? What makes this guy so darn bull-headed?
