Subject: Mythology in the movies: Good for X-Philes, bad for X-Files
In reply to: Islandgirl 's message, "Should the mytharc end with the TV series or continue on in the movies?" on 21:47:01 01/18/00 Tue

As a phile I would love for the mythology to continue throughout the movies. It would give me something to look forward to as they are my favorite type of episodes. And when you come right down to it the mythology is the meat of the show. Without it TXF would be so different and, IMO, not nearly as good. While it would be tough to keep track of, in my mind it's been tough to keep track of since the third season. That's what makes it so fun. Thoughtful entertainment.

Now, for the future of the TXF, I think it would be best to wrap up the mythology and continue the movies to be Monster of the Week with a little MSR mixed in (but only a little!). Reason being if *we* have trouble following the mythology how is CC and co. ever going to attract new fans? They'll have no idea and thus won't go see the movies. FTF was so about the mythology that a lot of people didn't like it at all. I've heard talk of alternating myth movies with MOTW movies, but I think that's a horrible idea. If you go four or six years between myth movies everyone will forget what has happened.

I've never seen an episode of the original Star Trek series, but I've seen every single movie. Imagine if there were some storyline to Star Trek that you had to be an avid fan of the original tv series to figure out, I'd stop watching after the first movie. Which is why, to remain popular, TXF must wrap up the mythology.
