Okay, let's pause for a moment and ponder the fact that my copy of ICE is nearly a decade old. 1993! Older than my relationship with Jan. There are people now alive that can have coherent conversations that weren't even BORN then. George W. Bush wasn't president...I don't think he was even the Governor of Texas.

Moving on...this is the X-Files I love. Scary, atmospheric...with a tightly wound, fish belly white skinned, Mulder and a slightly-rounded, gun toting Scully. I loved how Scully was the rescuer back then. Like the one episode with Seth Green(was it Fallen Angel?) when Mulder is at the airbase and Scully turns the tables on that Military Guy and is flashing the gun.

You guys talk about her shooting Mulder and I say, HECK YES she would've shot him...Scully was deadly serious with that weapon and I liked that...because it said "this woman is a Federal Agent and you are NOT." You didn't see that kind of thing on TV back then. The TV Detective women were always trim, Hollywood types, well-dressed and delicate(kind of like the Scully of today actually)and they usually let the men rescue THEM(and here I will try not to envision John Doggett carrying Scully toward the bus for his Field Surgery Slug Removal and John Wayne Gunslinging).

I am happy to say the Scully in ICE didn't need anyone to carry her. She took control even when it meant standing up to Mulder...and she kicked some serious butt, tossing those loaded magazines out into the storm. And who didn't love the gentle moment in the bedroom of looking at the DEAD MAN'S photo collection and how it morphed into blocking the door with a desk? Gillian did such a good job of conveying fear and strength at the same time in this episode. And she does the carrying here...of the majority of the episode.

On a "Things in the Ice" note...(assuming CC has a plan) there are a number of interesting things about this episode on that front. Checking the NECK for contamination. The fact that ALSO under the ICE is that alien craft. So the worms mostly the tip of the iceberg. The "arrogant" Dr. is actually expressing what would become the typical Mulderesque Paranoia. Notice how Mulder and Scully are suprised to be asked for ID and yet later they themselves "trust no one." They are also surprised to learn that the government had the site cleansed. And Scully's last word is interesting...as is the shot of Mulder. As he stares toward the horizon, she walks away with the "leave it there" line that is also a telling response to "The Truth Is Out There."

Rabid/Raeann
happy to have a worthy episode to review. Recorded tonights eppy for Season 9...watched only a few minutes at the start but noticed the Hollywood Scully(very tight and pretty but such a contrast to ICE Scully with her soft femininity, the pudgy smudged face and plaid work shirt).
