As a songwriter, Diamond gets props. His solo stuff is too saccharine for me (if you like him-that's fine). Plus, he was one of my mom's favorites so that automatically made me not like him (along with Paul Anka and Johnny Mathias).

I was a hard rock kid but I've come to appreciate blues, jazz, classical, etc. Johnny Cash is my favorite country singer. Now he has quite a voice and songs that that bite. I like Ray Charles too, not sure about Belfonte.

I have no idea why Red Sox nation have made Sweet Caroline their theme. Perhaps it was done ironically. But everyone sings along, adding emphasis to the "touching you.." part, the "dat-da-da" and repeating "so good.." 3 times after Neil sings it. If Red Sox fans turned their back on all New Yorkers, who would they listen to.

I saw Billy Crystal's 500 Sundays show in Boston (basically his childhood story & his relationship with his father) and he got booed when he did a part about his first trip to Yankee Stadium but he handled it well by saying "think of it as your sirst time to Fenway" and later in the show when he was in the dumps about the Yanks losing 4 straight games to the Pirates in the '60 WS, his father says "no way will the Ynakees ever lose 4 straight again" (big laugh-this being 2005).
