...speaking of the lives of the players...one thing I enjoy about CSI is the way they use the text of episodes to underline sub-text in the lives of the players. Take Grissom's hearing loss...I loved the way it was handled so subtly at first...with the episode about the deaf leading into it.

I have been making quite the study of Sara/Gris since I saw BUTTERFLIED last season...and I feel we are definitely being told things in the text this year about her. Many people think that Sara was sexual abused as a child and that is what the subtext has been trying to tell us for years.

I get a slightly different message. I think the subtext is telling us, Sara lost someone close to her and blames herself and/or her parents. From what we know of her parents she seems to have rejected their values completely. And she certainly identifies with crime victims. Sara's main thrust seems to be "justice"...she seems driven to be the voice of the victim. I think that speaks to survivor guilt but with the text so far this season being all about BAD PARENTING...maybe they will let us develop sympathy for the victim to the point where Sara doesn't need to explain on camera about her life...but instead only needs to deliver one scene ala Grissom's scene by the fountain in S3.

Hidden messages in text or subtext make my day...of course...because I am all about this style of storytelling. But does anyone here have any NON-SPOILER BASED insight?

Rae
