Subject: my take on these (mild spoilers)

I've seen both and liked both. Slumdog gave us a glimpse into India we don't often get in the US but knew well enough to give us an improbable happy ending too. Nice dance sequence at the end. My wife almost couldn't take the early scenes of childhood poverty but stuck with it & was glad she did.

Gran Torino was another example of the mature Clint Eastwood turning his younger persona on his head. Dirty Harry would have cleaned up that neighborhood in no time but the character Clint plays here actually never fires a shot in the whole film. Like Unforgiven (but not as good), this film says that violence can't be overcome with more violence. I've heard that Clint says this is his last acting performance, just directing from him from here on. Great note to end his career on.
