Yes I remember the controversy surrounding Slumdog. Part was they didn't want that part of India shown to the rest of world, wasn't it? And also there was some flack directed at the filmamkers becasue the kids they used went back to their poor neighborhoods afterward. Eventually the film did supply new houses for the kids and their families. I heard recently a couple of them have gotten new acting roles.
I think it's a cinema tradition in Bollywood films to have a dance number at the end. They did something similar at the end of "Bend it Like, Beckham."

I hadn't heard Clint was retiring from acting. This film should have gotten more notice than it did. I really liked the two kids, (Thao and Sue) as well as the sassy grandma. Clin't just lucky that nothing happened to Daisy the dog or he'd be on my hit list!
I thought it was an unusual story. It didn't fit into most hollywood plot molds.
