Yeah, living in Texas the "virtually no Hispanics on TV" thing is really strange to me, too!! Maybe it's just because we're Catholic, but the *majority* of people we know outside our families are Hispanic or half-Hispanic (we know a lot of couples where one is Anglo and one is Hispanic and the kids are, obviously, half-and-half). So the fact that TV shows rarely have Hispanic characters always seems odd to me.
Another thing I'm starting to notice as I grow older is the almost complete absence of women over the age of 50 on any TV shows. A lot of shows have one "young" woman and one "mature" woman, but the "young" woman is usually in her 20s and the "mature" one is in her late 30s or 40s. Since they canceled "Everybody Loves Raymond" -- in which Raymond's Mom, who was about 70, was a regular character -- I can't think of a single show that has a woman in her 50s or 60s as a regular cast member.
