Subject: Stardoe, ready to talk Torchwood?

Finally got to see season 1 on DVD. Now, the show can have swears and violence and lots of talk about sex but no nudity? I found that odd, why not go all the way?

Overall, the show is good but not as good as DW. In fact, I now appreciate the subtly of RTD on DW. All the sexual innuendo there is peanuts compared to Torchwood. Torchwood is in a sex obsessed universe. I found this a bit boring after awhile. Way overdone and often for no point. I groaned when Capt. Jack kissed the real Capt. Jack back in 1941, no way an RAF captain is doing that in front of his men back then and having any crediblity. In fact, I think he'd be drumed out fast. Even Gwen, the normal person thrust into this situation, falls into cheating on her boyfriend.

The show has a sarcastic tone and then swings into full on melodrama and back. Ianto in the Cyberwoman episode was horrible. I want that actor to only play the subdued Ianto and never to emote again.

This Torchwood doesn't seem anywhere near as professional as the one seen on DW. They have no oversight and not much training for Gwen. All members have betrayed the group at different times or proven themselves untrustworthy by doing things like bringing alien objects home or going off on their own to solve a case. Even in the finale with the world ending, Jack says UNIT and the CIA are contacting him but they never show up to help. Do they not know about the Rift? Why would everyone listen to 5 goofballs in Cardiff anyway?

At least most of the stories were about local matters and not end of the world scenarios like on DW. I liked the one about fairies, bringing back Suzie, the fight club take off and the Texas Chainsaw Massacre take off. Suzie was played by an actress who was also on the series Rome, liked her on both. Although Suzie's plan seemed way over done and if she was so smart, how'd she die in the first place?

I hope season 2 improves. They are showing Sarah Jane here now too but I can't see it as I just dropped most of my cable channels to save money. Hope those come out on DVD too. DW season 4 is showing here as well, a mere week or 2 behind the UK rather than 6 months or more.
