Not sure of the point of that episode other than, as you say, filler. But it was rather creepy! Akin to an XF stand alone episode? I thought Nikki and Paulo first showed up earlier this year when they asked for volunteers to go find the other hatch. Suddenly we had two new survivors out of nowhere. It looks like they incorporated them into previous scenes. I don't know if they were there before but I sure don't remember them.
Vincent was the only one who knew they weren't dead. He took the blanket off of them. Good old Vincent. :)
I'm with Sawyer when he kept saying, "Who the hell is Nikki?!".
