Subject: Fewer kids on network TV these days?

Is it just me or does it seem like children have pretty much disappeared from shows on network TV during the past few years?
Back when I was a kid, there was a fairly simple division between shows with and/or for kids and those mostly featuring (and aimed at) adults. Sitcoms mostly had kids and were "kid friendly"; dramas generally featured all-adult casts and were aimed at grown-ups. Sure, there were a few exceptions; shows like "M*A*S*H" were all-adult sitcoms but, on the other hand, shows like "The Waltons" were considered dramas but had kids in the cast. Even up through the late 1990s there were a fair amount of kid-centered sitcoms; stuff like "Sabrina, the Teen-Aged Witch" and "Boy Meets World".
Nowadays it seems like all dramas are "workplace" dramas that take place in police stations, hospitals, etc. where, naturally, there aren't any kids around. (Unless you count the truly incredible number of "killer kids" featured on "CSI".) And most sitcoms -- of which there are fewer now than there were in past decades -- seem to follow the in the mold of "Friends" or "Seinfeld" and have all-adult casts.
In some ways, this may be a good thing; most child actors usually end up as messed-up adults and fewer shows featuring children means fewer child actors. However, it seems kind of odd that network TV now presents the world as "adults only". Plenty of people still have kids! And 21st century children -- not all of whom live in homes that can afford cable TV channels like Disney or Nicolodeon -- might want to occasionally watch a show with kids in it.
