I don't know about the actor who plays Shannon, but I know Ian Somerholder, who played Boone, was pretty upset at having been killed off so early in the show. I read an interview with him in some magazine (Details?) where he mentioned he wanted to stay on the show, but it was purely a creative decision and he had nothing to do with it. Too bad, Boone was a cutie.

I think the show has continued to be compelling this season, but I agree that they have seemed to have gotten off track. I thought it took them WAY too long to get Sawyer, Michael, and Jin back to the other lostaways, and I know they are setting up Ana Lucia to be a major character, but I HATE her. Hate. I don't think she's a bad actor, but I hate her character. I can't stand it when she's on the screen and I think she's a useless addition. At least her back story set up her total bitchiness and cruelty a bit, but I still don't like it. If it wasn't for the fact that this is a JJ Abrams show, I'd say Ana Lucia fell into the trap of being a strong woman written by a man, where strong=total bitch. But since he created Sidney Bristow and Felicity Porter, I'm going to say that Ana Lucia is just as she is supposed to be.

I'd like to get back to finding out about the hatch, learning more about The Others, what the "monster" is, more clues as the WHY they're on the island, and more central character development. I enjoy the little quirks in the flashbacks where the lostaways have unknown interactions with each other. I don't mind the extra characters (especially Bernard!), but they do seem to be taking over the show the past few weeks. They are all reunited now, so maybe that is in the past.
