CSI versus CSI: NY

I catch an occasional ep of both these shows, although I'm not a fervent fan of either. I've seen more of the original, simply because it's been around longer. (I don't watch the Miami version.) While there are, obviously, some similiatrities, the characters seem to relate to each other differently.
The NYC characters definitely seem to think of themselves as police officers while the Las Vegas crew seems *very* confused about this (they run around flashing badges a lot, but they also -- Gris especially -- frequently announce that they are NOT cops, they're crime scene technicians). Also the NYC characters seem to operate as two pairs of partners (Mac-and-Stella and the other, younger, male-and-female CSI's) while the original CSI group just operates as a team with Gris as their leader.
