For that matter Sarah has a real career...though I don't care for her film choices...she makes the big money and she's moving toward adult with her two upcoming films.

David has a new show...Bones (about the life of forensic mystery writer and former pathologist Kathy Reich) that will air on Fox...before or after HouseMD. I sort of liked the look of it...but the market is crowded on those forensic shows and the reviews are quite bad.

Nick Brendon has a new sit-com about Reality Tv Chefs...seems indifferent.

And Alison Hannigan is picking up her gig on Veronic Mars. She was good in the role...and it was different than Willow.

I heard the Spike movie is a go and straight to DVD (which is sad but I think about right because Spike sans Buffy...is just...pointless). BTW, he died at the end of Buffy (yes, I know he came back but that doesn't excuse the stupid plot melodrama).

And yes, I know the Spike character is cool (so is Faith)...but cool characters are usually SUPPORTING characters for a really good reason: when the Fonz takes over the show the show generally jumps the shark.

Personally, I think James could have carried a show if the character had developed differently...but it didn't. And James is going to be doing Brainic in SMALLVILLE for an arc next season. Again, I think a bad choice on his part but he will get viewers.

I did see that Colossus was back and I heard via the Library Journal Reviews that JW had untangled the mythology a little.

I agree with your take on River...seems sensible...and like you I did like her shooting...that is one of my favorite episodes, too. I love Wash and Mal bonding during torture. We also agree on the hokey western roots of Firefly...the main reason in my mind the show failed. I think it put off viewers by the truckload but it was JW's main concept (Civil War Rebs in a Space Frontier). He wanted to take the cliche from Star Wars and Star Trek: "That they were just westerns set in space" and make it sing. Not a bad ambition...but it just didn't play.

However, to give JW his due...his pilot was infinitely better than the one Fox made him do..."boring" my ass...I think it would have hooked many more viewers if it had aired. I loved that the Chinese went to space and not America. I enjoyed some of the Rebel parallels, too. But not the Hee-Haw factor.

Rae
