I think you're right about not wanting to take time for the theme song as well as the MTV reference. As much as Sesame Street has always been a decent kids show, it too moved from segment to segment at a fairly rapid pace. Then of course there are the video games which require you to move rapidly or get wiped out. We seem to be turning into an impatient society which needs instant feedback or gratification.

Harsh Realm used a narration as an introduction and that show only lasted a year. I know there were other shows that were in this same boat. I just can't think of their names at the moment.
