BTW, I do want to make it clear that we there *are* some shows we won't allow our children to watch due to unacceptable levels of gore and violence, rather than sexual content, such as CSI (although, lately, CSI has been on our "not appropriate for our kids" list due to both violence *and* sexuality). It's just that we don't consider football to be violent. We live in Texas and my husband is a sportswriter. My kids have grown up going to football games.
Parents have both the right and the responsibility to monitor their children's TV viewing. However, networks do have a responsiblity not to suddenly and without warning add naked women to a show that doesn't generally feature them. . .or introduce gun battles and knivings into usually lighthearted sitcoms.
