Subject: 24: First four episodes

Wow! I feel like I've done nothing but watch 24 for the past few days. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I think the season is off to a strong start. I think they made the right decision getting rid of so many characters, but CTU does NOT seem right without Tony. It's just bizarre. It's a little weird without Michelle, but REALLY weird without Tony. So far I haven't missed Kim or Palmer at all.

It shocked me to death when Kiefer's replacement managed to overtake him and handcuff him to a pole. I figured that, and the fact that he didn't seem to realize the cops would set up a roadblock, were to show just how rusty he is and how seperated he's become from CTU. But then I realized he was out of commission even longer between seasons one and two and the first thing he did shoot an FBI witness in the chest and cut off his head with a hacksaw. So who knows? Things I did like about Kiefer: when he was one second yelling at the people in the gas station and the next second he sweetly tells the woman they're closed. I also love how he showed up to CTU in a suit but just happened to have his bad ass outfit waiting for him in the car.

The new CTUers I'm not sure about. Driscoll seems like the typical ineffective boss that they've had every year at CTU (with the exception of Tony). Looks like her daughter might be the new Kim. I love that new guy who Chloe can't ever hear when he talks. I picked him out from The Sopranos right away, but it took me a couple of episodes to realize he was the FBI agent who worked with Big Pussy. The new girl, Sara, is super hot, and I think we're supposed to think she's annoying, but so far she's just got that nosey quality that everyone seems to have in CTU-land (most notably Season one Tony, and we see how much I grew to love him).

The one thing I really don't like about this season so far is how, just like every other season, the superiors are more bent on bringing Jack in than they are with taking care of the matter at hand. When will they just give up and realize that Jack ALWAYS knows best? I would have loved to see Driscoll say something like, "Well, Mason tried this in season one and Chappelle tried it both seasons two and three, and they both looked like jackasses at the end of the day, so I'm going to go ahead and trust him."
