Regrettably, Canisius is not in the position to afford firing Reggie now, and must await the end of his contract in 2024 to move on. If we had a rich alum or two who would subsidize a contract buy out, we could do so, but that appears to be not happening. Ironically, we were only able to afford to hire Jim Baron because a buddy of his from his Bona days paid a big chunk of his salary at CANISIUS.

So, we are left with a lame duck coach for next season who has little incentive to recruit talent even if kids would even consider coming here. Our only hope is that Reggie would embrace his final year as a retiring coach who helps us build for the future.

Here’s a thought outside the box. What if we hired Patrick Beilein as an assistant for next year with the commitment to become head coach when Reggie goes? Would cost us little (as Patrick is now earning a high school coach’s salary) and would allow Patrick to begin recruiting his team right away. And it would allow Reggie to go out gracefully and with the support of alums.

Baron made 208k in his final year at Canisius. Why would someone from Bona pay a part of it?

Baron’s best friend from his freshman team at Bona paid at least $100 G above the reported salary of $208G.

I've never heard that one. Conceptually, it doesn't make much sense. If your best friend from college had the means to give you $100,000, why wouldn't they just give it to you? Why would they make you work for it at a rival school?

Baron’s friend attended many games. I met him during the MAAC tournament in Springfield. Jim wanted to return to coaching after he was fired by Rhodesia Island and this guy gave him the money to make the CANISIUS job acceptable.

Is there anyone still at Canisius who this guy feels sorry for and could give them 100k to help buy out RW?
