Date Posted: 11:02:20 07/04/01 Wed In reply to: Sherrie 's message, "We have to start something soon..." on 10:58:47 07/04/01 Wed Hi Sherrie: First, the company that hosts the e-mail address (thrivingbusi@homestead.com) is discontinuing e-mail service. If you want to send me any more messages, please send them to thrivingbusiness@email.com Second, I'll start with some warnings before I cover other subjects. Any home business owner should be sure the business doesn't violate zoning laws. If customers/clients will be coming to your home, it may be against the law. You can ask a city government representative or a lawyer about it. Sometimes police officers don't enforce zoning laws against home businesses unless the neighbors complain. So, do your best to avoid neighborhood problems. I'm working at my home but I go to my clients, if it's necessary or practical. I'm working with a client whose first name is Chris. I don't know if Chris is male or female because we send e-mail messages to each other. If you can avoid having people come to your home, you'll also decrease your chances of lawsuits. If somebody gets hurt at your home, you can be sued. If your running a business without business insurance, your home owners/ renters insurance probably won't cover your customers' injuries. This may seem cynical but please consider it, it's a lesson that others have learned. If the two of you will be working in the business together, you may have too much togetherness. Some happily married couples are good marriage partners but not good business partners. Third, does your husband former employer or another, similar business need a consultant? Some businesses don't allow former employees to become their consultants, but has he asked about it? It's good to review what you know how to do, but also seriously consider what you each like to do. Does he like working with CAD programs? Do you like photography? If so, what do you like taking pictures of? Do you also develop them? Do you have a digital camera that would allow you to put pictures on web sites? Scanning pictures is good, but I've seen pictures that scanners have distorted. I've seen a TV commercial showing a couple looking for a landmark that the woman parents stood by when a picture was taken of them. Would you be interested in (I guess the term would be splicing)splicing the background from one picture into another? For example - Putting the image of a couple together with the image of a landmark? These are just some examples. If you have something you want to market, let me know. I may be able to give some guidance if you give me specific information about it and who would be interested in buying it. But please be sure to send it to the e-mail address I wrote above. Warmly, Dennis S. Vogel You don't need a miracle. You don't need magic. You need powerful marketing. Here's where to get it. http://wz.com/business/SmallBizThriving.html http://www.thrivingbusiness.homestead.com [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
