I whisper,"I love you too" in his ear before I run to get water. Once in the woods, I feel cold, and very alone. I hear the crackling of leaves under my foot. Moss covers every tree and rock like a blanket. I stop abruptly, allowing my ears to pick up a faint sound in the distance. I hear a clinking sound. Almost sounds like wind chimes. I round a huge willow tree to see a narrow babbling brook, supporting clear, calm water. I step up and dip a paw in, its ice cold. The water numbs my paw. When I take it out I feel it tingle. perfect I think. Now how to get it back?. My eye catches on something that looks almost like half of an opened coconut shell. I wonder what it mite be, but then remember how urgent this trip is, and grab it hastily. I tilt it slightly in my mouth, allowing it to pick up a portion of the water. I tilt it back ever so carefully before trotting off, careful not to spill a drop.
When I finally reach the spot by the highway, I take head count and realize everyone is there. "Good, glad you all stayed" I attempt to say, with the shell still in my mouth. I place the water down in front of Taro, careful not to let any spill. I can't help but silently wonder, whats gonna happen to us?
