Subject: George looked GREAT at the Oscars-- DISCUSS!

Hi Gang,

I feel silly asking, but did you all watch any, all or part of the Academy Awards last night? (I know, it ran too damned long and took longer than necessary to get to the major awards, but still...)

Just want to say I hung in there because I knew GC was going to present the Oscar to the Best Supporting Actress winner (Chicago's own Jennifer Hudson--Way to go, Jenny From MY Block!!) and I wanted to see him in his finery.

As I predicted, he looked absolutely smashing in his tux and was gracious and funny as always when interviewed backstage afterwards, being a grown-up and good sport about the near complete shut-out of his and Steven Soderbergh's black and white period movie, "The Good German," which it turns out was nominated for Best Orignal Score but lost to "Pan's Labyrinth". (We'll get 'em next year, baby--you've got lots more awards in your future, don't worry.)

I didn't have to work today, so as I puttered around the place I kept the tv on to catch as many glimpses of GC as possible in all the backstage and party coverage. I just now watched Oprah Winfrey's "After Oscar" special (Helen Mirren and Jennifer Hudson dropped by with their Oscar statuettes in tow) and just before the show went to commercial, toward the end of the program, she told the audience to stay tuned for a nice "George Clooney moment."

After the commercial Oprah showed a clip of a very glam ABC local news reporter -- dang, can't recall her name just now-- interviewing GC (with his publicist, Stan Rosenfield, standing protectively nearby). The reporter then joined Oprah on the show, dishing a little about the stars and gushing about what a "genuine movie star" and "truly nice man" GC is; Oprah agreed he is a great guy...

(By the way, did you all see Oprah's Oscar Special last week where she had three pairs of movie stars interviewing each other? Julia Roberts and George Clooney were each other's interviewers--the others were Russell Crowe interviewing and being interviewed by Nicole Kidman, and Jamie Foxx doing same with the great Sidney Poitier--and it was so funny and entertaining. You can tell George and Julia really like each other; they teased each other and laughed a lot, and at one point Julia said she was hungry and the camera followed her and GC out onto his patio where he grilled hamburgers for them both. Wish I'd been there!)

Anyway, back to the Oprah "After Oscar" show: George had earlier sent out a facetious warning that he was going to have his publicist announce 50 different names as his date just to throw off the press and papparazzi who dog his every move; backstage at the Oscars the ABC reporter reminded him of that and playfully asked him if her name could be placed on that list. "Sure," GC replied smiling, "What are you doing for dinner?"

Nice stuff, gang! Hope you caught some of it! :-)
