One of Bud's best qualities is that he doesn't worry about proving he's the best to everyone -- he knows he's competent, intelligent and a good lawyer.

Right now, I'd say his worst characteristic is his lack of confidence in his relationship with Harriet. For example, in Lifelines, right before he met the dessert, he was talking to Singer and Gloria (Gunny's date) about horseback riding and the two women invited each other to go riding together.

Bud didn't really recognize that the reason they invited him was because he was there while they made plans to do this and considered it rude (yes, I know when would Singer worry about being rude -- well this is one instance, when she wouldn't want someone else to know what a b*tch she really is) to not invite him. Then instead of graciously declining or accepting for himself AND Harriet, he gets all flustered, especially since that's the moment Harriet showed up.

YES -- they are doofusing up a good man. Some doofus is good -- it's what we love about Bud and a strength. (E.g., his ability to say "What if . . ." and be open to many ideas.)

He's more appealing than Harm because he doesn't have ego problems and he's not a passive/aggressive twit. (Altough, I have to say Gunny does much more for me on the bone jumping tangent.)
