Subject: Bud's Injury and its ramifications...

After going through the different emotions, (shock, sadness, anger...) and thinking about it long and hard, I've come to the conclusion that this is the best thing to happen to this show in a long time. Don't get me wrong, I love Bud just as much as you all do and wish TPTB would be kinder. But this just nails another personal hole in the ground for me and it's a good thing for many reasons. I like JAG so much, not just for good-looking PL & DJE and the dog fighting, but for the way that I can sort of relate to each of the charactors in a different way. I never could really relate to Bud as much as the others until now (I am physically challenged). And what's more, the concept of a show where a physically challenged person is introduced is pretty much nonexsistant. Finally DPB has a story line that is more in tune with today. Bud is a hero and DPB is showing a side of society that is rarely shown in the entertainment world. I'm sorry but trying to mix romance between H&M and the way they are going about it (just lousy), and the cat fighting between Harriet and Singer, is not the way to get good ratings. I cannot wait until September 24, 2002 to see how DPB takes this new story line. I hope he really gets it all out in the open. =)

[> Anne, I think it was very bold do this to a major beloved character like Bud, and I agreee good idea. I have always felt that Bud is the tie between all the characters, and know that he will meet the challenge and accel with it. Bud's the best! -- cava, 07:50:44 06/06/02 Thu

Ok, the way I see it, this injury could possibly be the best thing that has ever happened in the show. Now, don't call me cold-hearted or anything (I still weep every time I even see Bud on the reruns), but think of the ramifications. First, I want to see how the Admiral (I'm assuming he's the one that will do it) will break the news to Harriet. Second, and more importantly, Bud will no longer be able to work on the Seahawk, and as a result, will be able to spend more time at home with Harriet and AJ. Obviously, his leg (or lack thereof) will not interfere with his work as a lawyer. BUT there will be an open place on the Seahawk. *innocently* Now, which character was it that wanted that job? If I recall correctly, it was SINGER!!! O happy day!

I have been searching far and wide speculating the fallout of Bud's injuries. This poor guy has been through so much, growing up in an abusive home, fighting a weight problem most of his adult life, losing a baby due to medical negligence, and now this. I think he is going to come home, become a very angry and bitter man, shut out Harriet and little A.J., as well and the rest of the JAG staff. He will contemplate leaving the Navy and maybe even suicide, but will come out of it one or two episodes into the season and realize despite this tragedy, he can still be a fantastic attorney, officer, husband and father. I also hope we see he and Harriet have another baby this season. This will be the glue that holds his life and family together. Quite honestly, I think PL is probably the best actor on the show, and I love the fact that this off balance, goofy guy is the only one who has managed to make a marriage and family work, while the studs and the woman everyone wants, ie. Mac, are still alone. Bud will come out of the this just fine, and it will quite possible make him a better man and officer. As for how everyone, (Harm, Mac, Admiral C), reacts, I really don't care. Bud, Harriet and their family is all that matters at this time. What it does to the rest of the crew is secondary.
