Subject: A Brief History of Hanford..

Hello everyone!
I was looking through my AAA Calif/Nev book for Indio, CA (a posssible road trip) and flipping through the H's found a brief history of Hanford. Since I love History and finding out the origins of things, found it very interesting. Thought you might too!

Hanford ~ Pop: 30,900 elev: 248'
"Founded in 1882 in the San Joaquin Valley, Hanford was named for a Southern Pacific Railroad paymaster who became a power in the community. He paid millions of dollars of workers' wages in gold. Hanford once claimed one of the largest Chinese communtities in California. In China Alley, a remnant of that community, are the Taoist Temple and a landmark restaurant operated by the descendants of the family who started the business in 1883. Courthouse Square, the center of historic Hanford, includes the Kings County courthouse and the old brick jailhouse. Both have been renovated and now house shops, offices and a restaurant. Also on the square are a renovated carrousel and many speciality shops."
