Subject: What Steve Perry means to me.

What does Steve Perry mean to me? It all started back in 1978 when I first heard "Lights" sung over the radio by a voice that just took hold of me swung me around and gently put me back on the ground. At first I did not know who this was. Was it a singer or a group. I wasn't sure. A few days later I heard that same song and that voice still took hold of me and swung me around. It was then that I heard the DJ say the name Journey with lead singer Steve Perry. Being 12 at the time and hearing a singer so soft, soulful and so very sweet was a great thing for this soul of mine. Listening to the radio became important to me just so that I could hear that singer sing that song again. I remember the first Journey album I bought was Frontiers. Hearing Steve sing Seperate Ways just took hold of my heart strings and the melody of that song plus Steve's wonderful voice just played on and on. What do I love about this man? His kind gentle way he always presented himself. Never letting the stardom go to his head being as natural for the fans and his audience. Steve has always be very modest in interviews and in the many things he has said. Which makes him that much more special. When I think of what Steve means to me, I think of a man who has given his all to make sure the fans get the best. Hearing live versions of songs shows just how genuine and true that man really is. Lyrics to many Journey songs read just like a diary of a man and group that gave up alot to give their all. Steve solo works to me are words from the heart and soul that just seem to make you cry and in the same breath make you all full of happy emotions like a cup that runith over. Steve has always put such heartfelt and soulful emotion into every word he has ever sung. When Journey went there seperate ways in 1986, I knew in a way that Steve had been out there too long and that a break was something that he needed. I had no idea like everyone else that would be the end of Journey until they reunited in 1996 for TBF. I patiently waited to hear the voice that took hold of me and swung me around in 1978 and wondered if it would ever swing me around like the first time. In 1994 I heard a song on the radio. That song took hold of my soul, lifted me up, swung me around and ever so gently put me back down. It was Steve. His voice was slightly different but it took hold of me like that first time. I bought FTLOSM, listened to it and was just blown away by the realism of his lyrics the tenderness in his voice. I was totally swept away. Then once again that voice was gone until 1996 when I heard a piano on the radio and heard
something take hold of my soul, but this time my heart was swung around and my soul was dancing. It was like meeting up with an old friend that you hadn't seen in a long time but in that same emotion it was like a lover that had come back after many years of being gone. I knew the moment I heard When You Love a Woman that it was a special song and it was sung by the same man who simply knows how to sing from the heart. Seeing Steve again on BTM made me realize once again that he is still that very modest gentle kind soul that swept me and everyone else away the first time we heard his voice. Over the years Steve's appearance and the way he has worn his hair has changed, his voice does sound different, definetly better. He was always to me a very handsome gentleman from 1978 to the present to me. Seeing Steve do something helpful is not nothing new to me. Steve has always given his all and the very best to make sure the many fans are never disappointed. He had to give up a lot to give us his all and best that I for one am so glad that he is finally being able to do for Steve. "THANK YOU" seems so small to say to someone who has given so much but in the same breath "THANK YOU" seems so right to say to Steve who still when he sings takes hold of my heart and soul and swings it around and gently sets me down again. Since I told you what Steve means to me, I ask you what does Steve mean to you?

Perry On!
