Great (but painful) story! Such devotion!
Well, I do have a story.
Although not a fan as long as you, I did love Journey and Steve's great voice back in High School (I too, am 16 with 18 years experience). However there was a girl, I forget her name, that was a Steve Perry fanatic. She wore Journey t-shirts all the time, and it was just general knowledge that Steve was her guy. Anyway, one day we're in class and the teacher leaves, well a discussion (re: argument) starts with some of the guys. Being at the front of the class I couldn't hear it all, but finally one guy yells "Steve Perry ruined Journey" Well, needless to say everyone immediately looked over to the girl. She just shrugged and kept listening. (We thought she might jump him) anyway, I said "Hmm, I didn't know there was a Journey before Steve Perry" Well, that didn't go over well with some of them. I forget what happened next, but when I was watching BTM for the first time that conversation came back to me. Weird, that was a good 16 - 17 years ago, but I remembered it. That's what inspired me to find out more about the man. Sometimes you can admire the work but never put the music with the man. Thank gosh I finally did. I wonder what happened to my school mate?
