Yep I agree with all those points, and Phil's suggestion of a workers co-op. How would that work when hiring new staff though?

Especially like making the upstairs a chill out room. The only alternative to that is building some sort extention for it (like that's going to happen though!). The upstairs is good that it plays different types of music, but really it is far too cramped to be a 2nd dance room. For instance that tiny tiny corridor between the stair-well half and the dance-floor half is a joke, god help anyone if a fire breaks out. It's just a darned awkward shape to do anything with.

Undecided on the student card thing. I see the argument for doing so, but then again it has always been a place that is 'student friendly'. I've found it nice that for seven years I've always been welcomed with my student card. If the door staff were actually more strict when checking ID on the door, there probably wouldn't be as much of a problem with letting in townie invaders and the like. Everytime I go to spiders, I am never challenged to show ID. Which I like for me, but it's not good practice by any measure.

To conclude I agree with your suggestions Roger, but with a couple of minor reservations. Having said that I think what would be lost would be worth it for the gains.

As for my own ideas, going to be a bit boring here I'm afraid. I think the music is played way too loud, and I think the door staff should do a head count with a limit of how many are allowed in at any one time. Reason being, I'm sure that many times I've been there, there have been far more people squeezed in to the place than is safe. Again, god help us if there's a fire in there one night!

D.
