BC, What a gift! I love it! I missed the eclipse as I was in a very wet Las Vegas. It was my first time visiting and at least I discovered that it has little to offer me. I much preferred my trip to Central California and Yosemite last summer. Although I didn't eat any bugs in Vegas, I do think I caught one. My friend Stephanie was coming down with a cold and I fear she shared it with me.
The best part of the trip is that Steph grew up in Hawaii and I guess Las Vegas is the #1 spot for Hawaiians to vacation so she kept showing me all of this great Hawaiian stuff. I think I ate more rice, Portuguese sausage and Spam than I've eaten in all the rest of my life all together!
I heard there was to be an eclipse and was so sad everything was all clouded over. Oh well, it probably was at home too. It was especially exciting that it happened on the winter solstice. I wonder what my Druid " ancestors" would have thought of that!
Keep an eye out on the board for something special from Vegas. Its still in the luggage, but I think you'll get a kick out of it! Made me laugh!
It's so good to hear your voice 'round here again! :)
I'm glad you liked the video!
The rice and Portuguese sausage sound good!
But, I'd have to pass on the Spam ...
I've eaten my share of "mystery meat" - as my brother called - when we were kids!
The Hawaiian aspect of the trip sounds "very cool" though!
When I think of Vegas, I think of Wayne Newton and Don Ho - "Tiny Bubbles"! :)
Re: the Druids ...
“Some archeologists believe that Stonehenge - the mysterious arrangement of enormous elongated stones in England - is actually a crude effort by the Druids to build a computing device."
So, there's telling what they'd be up to by the light of a "neon red" moon?! :)
You've got me curious about the suprise?!
I'll keep an eye on the board!
And, I hope you and Stephanie are feeling better soon!
- BC :)

You're not "goofy" ! :)
But, if it makes you feel any better ...
back in july of '69 ...
when man first walked on the moon ...
as it was being broadcast on TV ...
I remember going outside ...
looking at the moon ...
trying to see if I could see them! :)

And, Yes ...
I'm that old! :)

After watching the video,
what I'm wondering...
in years past ...
when I've seen a "red" or "orange" tint on a full moon ...
was I actually seeing an eclipse, and just didn't realize it?!

Nah-what you were seeing was a harvest moon or blue moon that occurs when it reflects off dust particles in the air and a lot of other scientific mumbo jumbo
That was awesome! Daniel and I bought a telescope just to watch these events but unfortunately it was cloudy. About 8 years ago, Daniel and I spent the night outside at the riverfront park in Chattanooga to watch a meteor shower, no telescope needed, many years before that at Opryland, we had a solar eclipse. Even thought both are awesome, they are still kind of creepy. I can understand why myths and folklore tales (mysterious and/or magical) started!
You know I was born in "Chattanooga" - Cherokee for "The Big Catch" because of good fishing on the Tennessee River.
My grandpa lived on the portion of the TN River which ran through Scottsboro, AL. Some of my best memories were on the 4th of July, and he would take fireworks out on his boat and shoot them over the river - in front of the boat dock where we would sit and watch the display! So, I bet seeing the meteor shower in that setting was beautiful!
Yep, I remember the first time I saw a "red moon" - I was in elementary school! Someone told me that was a "sign" the world as I knew it was about to end?! Well, here I am - about 40 years later!
Thank goodness it was a "false alarm"! :)
But, I agree ...
it was "kinda creepy" all the same!

I think it goes ...
“Red sky at night, sailor’s delight."
"Red sky in morning, sailor’s warning!"
Either way, a "red moon" still looks kinda creepy to me!
You know Neeney ...
that "eery" glow during those times might be partially caused by the fumes in the air when the "Monster Mushroom" in Oregon "comes up for air" ...
"sniffin' 'round" for some "tasty tid-bits" from TN as a "midnight snack" ?! :)
