Well my average on the bike is around 35mpg. You have to understand because it is high performance you could really get a lot more if you don't twist your wrist too hard:). However the equivalent 0-60mph in three seconds in the fastest ferrari is a lot more gas. I've heard as much as 30-40percent of the price of oil is speculative. As long as oil companies can invest in hedge funds they can play both sides of the fence . Claiming on one hand they have nothing to do with the price of oil. Yet on the other making huge profits by divesting into funds, that as a component, make their money by hedging commodity prices. Yes four runners do suck at gas mileage. All that hardware made to last unfortunately weighs a lot. So as my father would often say," What you win on the roundabout you lose on the swings".It's an old playground reference but hopefully you get the drift. Each one of these oil "adventures" however does drive technology to innovate and people to conserve. That will never be a bad thing. The sooner we invent ourselves away from the archaic oil spiggot the better. No incentive imaginable beats the dollar and dollar pain will indeed drive inventive gain. The irony is this oil dependent lesson was firmly learned a long time ago. It was just deemed too expensive and not profitable for companies to ever fully expand research, or vehicle development, away from that which was/is relatively cheap. How do you incentivize a company that makes its profits from gas to promote other technologies? Only by making it's product irrelevant in the marketplace will that ever happen. Whilst our vehicles increasingly become our only cocoons from the ever encroaching traffic/society mess we will continue to have a love affair with the car. I love cars, especially fast ones. However that love makes no sense in todays world. I see car making technology is at last trying and I support the volt, prius, leaf,et al and until I can afford one I'll do my two wheeled part whenever I can.Love on ya Stewart
